The teaching philosophy of the Department is to promote the acquisition of knowledge and critical thinking and provide our students with the necessary skills for a successful career in the fields of accounting and finance.

  • VISION – The Department of Accounting at Hezekiah University, Umudi, Imo State aspires to build a team of nation builders that believes that finance is the life wire of any entity and living with the knowledge that their duties are to collect, interpret and maintain financial information and also providing timely and accurate report of financial transactions in any aspect of life they find themselves.
  • MISSION – The Mission of the Department of Accounting at Hezekiah University Umudi, Imo State is to produce world class graduates that have been drilled in various ways to have the ability to provide full range of financial reports and also managing money, collecting receivables, financial reporting and paying bills on time in any organisation that they are employed.
  • AIM & OBJECTIVE – The primary objective of accounting discipline are to produce graduates with critical mind, requisite ability and skill to analyze, comprehend, predict and influence the factors that shape and mould accounting relationship/interactive marketing, in an ever-changing socio-political environment in a global economy.

  • Career Placement – Graduates of this Department after being well equipped will definitely be gainfully employed in various fields both in the public and private sectors as:

    Actuary, Business development manager, Data analyst, Economist, Licensed conveyancer, Management consultant, Mortgage adviser, Purchasing manager, Retail banker, Tax adviser

Admission Requirements

Candidates are admitted into the B.Sc. Degree programmes of the department through any of the following three ways:

– Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

– Direct Entry

– Inter-University Transfer.

i) UTME

The entry requirements shall be at least, credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects at WAEC, NECO, NAPTEB or its equivalent in not more than two sittings. In addition, an acceptable pass in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) based on the approved cut-off mark for the current academic session in which a candidate is seeking admission, with relevant subject combination (Mathematics, Economics and any other social science subject) required for admission into 100 Level.

ii) Direct Entry Mode

Applicants for admission by direct entry shall:

a) Possess two ‘A’ level passes including Economics

b) Possess at least, one of the following:

  • Joint University Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB)
  • A minimum of a lower credit pass at the ND or a diploma in a relevant discipline.
  • A first university degree or its equivalent
  • Any other qualification acceptable to the senate.

iii. Inter-University Transfer

Candidates wishing to transfer into the Department of Accounting from another university must have:

(a) Filled the Inter-University Transfer form obtained from Hezekiah University Admissions Officer.

(b) Satisfied the departmental minimum academic standard required for such level.

The mission of the Department is to strengthen our international recognition and establish ourselves as an important teaching and research center in the fields of accounting and finance in Nigeria and the neighboring region. Thus, we seek to continuously enhance the quality of our programs to achieve our mission in the best possible way and to respond to the constant and dynamic challenges of our times.
